FAQ - Semi-Permanent Tattoos

How Does It Work?

The 100% fruit-based ink starts off clear, and develops over 1-4 days. It turns into a dark blue/black design that lasts 1-2 weeks.

The ink soaks into the top layer of the skin. It fades over time as your skin naturally regenerates.

Before You Commit to the Magic 🤍

  • The tattoos last 1-2 weeks and CANNOT BE REMOVED EASILY.
  • Although rare, smudging can occur. Consider this prior to using for weddings or photoshoots.
  • For larger tattoos, apply 2-3 days prior to events for optimal darkness. Smaller tattoos develop more quickly.

How does it work?

The ink used for these semi-permanent tattoos soaks into the top layer of the skin. It fades over time as your skin naturally regenerates.

The ink is 100% fruit-based and turns into a dark blue/black design that lasts 1-2 weeks.

What is the ink made of?

The ink is made from Genipin, which is derived from the fruit of the Gardenia plant.

How can I remove the tattoo sooner?

Although the semi-permanent tattoos last 1-2 weeks and cannot be removed easily, you can attempt to speed up the fading by lightly scrubbing skin with an exfoliant (like warm saltwater or a body scrub). Be gentle!

Rubbing alcohol can also help remove the last stages of fading (video).

The ink transferred to other parts of my body during sleep - what can I do?

Be sure to wear lose clothing for the first 2-3 nights to prevent ink transfer during sleep.

If ink transfer occurs, a rubbing alcohol pad can help remove ink from the transferred area.

My tattoo didn’t develop correctly. Can you assist?

Tattoo development will vary from person to person. There are different factors that impact how your tattoo turns out and how long it takes to develop. Examples include:

  • Your skin chemistry
  • Whether you sweat while applying the tattoo or in the 75 minutes after
  • Whether you wait 75 minutes before moving or covering the tattoo after application
  • How long you wait to work out or get wet after applying (I recommend 8 hours 🖤)

If your tattoo didn’t develop as expected, please email me at sparrowandwilde@gmail.com

  • What about the tattoo did not turn out as expected ♥

Can I put a new tattoo in the same spot once the tattoo fades?

I recommend giving your skin a little break between tattoos 🤍 Waiting one month between application in the same spot will help decrease chances of ink sensitivity.

Is the ink FDA Certified?

Although the FDA does not certify any tattoo ink, the 100% fruit-based ink used for the semi-permanent tattoos has been heavily tested and is environmentally friendly.

Are the tattoos vegan?

Yes! The ink is extracted purely from plants 🖤

Are these tattoos safe during pregnancy or while breastfeeding?

Please consult your doctor before use if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.

Are these tattoos safe for children?

The tattoos are for ages 18+.

How should I store the tattoos?

Store in a cool and dry area.

Can I swim with the tattoos?

Yes! These tattoos are water resistant because they sink into the top layer of skin.

However, extended exposure to water and swimming (especially in chlorinated water) will shorten the life of your tattoo - see an example timeline here.

To protect your tattoo while in the water, you can apply balm/jelly over the tattoo before swimming.

Can I get a spray tan with these tattoos?

I recommend applying your tattoo prior to getting a spray tan.

Can I get a real tan with these tattoos?

When wearing these tattoos in the sun, you may get a tanline of the tattoo.

Can I tattoo permanently over these tattoos?

I recommend waiting until the semi-permanent tattoo completely fades before getting a real tattoo so as not to mix inks.

What if I have a reaction to the ink?

Please use discretion when using the tattoos on sensitive skin. Similar to any new product you may apply topically, there is a small risk of allergic reaction if it's the first time applying to skin.

These tattoos contain ingredients you may not have put on your skin before. As a result, there's a small risk of allergic reaction upon application (or of sensitization through repeated use).

If a reaction takes place, it's usually a mild case of contact dermatitis (red or inflamed skin as a result of irritation). The itchiness/irritation should subside in a few days. You can speed up the healing process by ensuring that the area is properly moisturized.

If your symptoms persist, I suggest contacting a doctor. If you're experiencing any discomfort, irritability, or if you have any more questions, please send me an email at sparrowandwilde@gmail.com
